The 13 celebrities who took part have each selected a charity to be a recipient of proceeds raised during the Joyner/Waddington’s Canadian Fine Art Auction in December. In each episode we watch as three distinct portraits are produced; one is chosen by the celebrity, six will be selected by the Portrait Gallery of Canada and 20 are destined for the auction.
The charities featured below, have been personally chosen by the participating celebrities to receive an equal division of the net proceeds.
WORLD VISION
GEORGE CHUVALO RESEARCH GROUP
World Vision Canada is an organization I've been involved with for many, many years. I've traveled all over the world on their behalf. They sponsor children in third world countries and they do relief work where the need is greatest. They can use the help, they can use the money.
I am truly delighted that the recipient of some of the monies from my portraits will be going to the Toronto Humane Society. Indeed, I don't think I could have picked a better choice for such, as the Toronto Humane Society reflects my passionate love of animals. Those who have occupied my home through the years have been a special extension of my family. Animals don't betray people. We must never forget that we're sharing this world with them.
One of my favourite charities is the Children's Wish Foundation because it brings a smile to the faces of kids who can't necessarily do everything that other kids can do because of their illnesses.
Oolagen is a non-profit charitable organization that helps youth 13-18 years of age, and their families, deal with problems ranging from issues of grief and death to physical and sexual abuse. My wife and I recently became patrons of Oolagen, after learning about the incredible work they have done for over 40 years, helping so many of our young people.
My charity is The CURE Foundation for Breast Cancer, for which I have been the spokesperson for two years now. The Charity helps fund awareness and research for a disease that touches one in nine Canadian women during their lifetime. It is an uphill battle fighting breast cancer, but a battle that I feel will eventually be won with the help of charities such as The CURE Foundation.
The reason I chose Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada was because they reach out to so many different children, with so many different needs.

Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts is a school that supports a lot of young, talented painters, dancers, and actors.
Drug use decimated my family, so now, through my charity the GEORGE CHUVALO RESEARCH GROUP, I travel around the country speaking to young people about the perils of drug abuse and helping them focus on making smart choices and living healthy lifestyles. Poor choices can be easily made by young people – I hope my guidance can give youth the tools to strengthen the odds in their favour at the most important time of their lives.
One out of eight citizens of this blue planet are without access to clean water. 4000 children die each day from water-related disease. This is appalling to me. We are blessed to be living in Canada. By giving to Watercan you will save lives and alleviate so much suffering in the world's poorest communities.
Learning Through The Arts is an innovative charity out of the Royal Conservatory of Music that uses artistic methods to help teach core curriculum subjects in public schools where the arts have been all but cut out from the students lives and education. The students' grades and class participation have shown documented and marked improvement when artistic expression is implemented into their scholastic development.
Colon Cancer Canada is my charity of choice because the work they do saves lives. I’m living proof. This disease can kill, but it is also treatable and preventable. And CCC makes a difference.
My mother was an ardent supporter of the Art Gallery of Algoma which is physically situated in my home town of Sault Ste. Marie, ON. Continuing her love of the arts, I have held exhibitions of my fine art photography at the AGA, as I believe in the value of cultural initiatives in smaller communities in Canada.
I chose UNICEF for two reasons. My wife is an ambassador of UNICEF and has been doing a lot of work with young women, empowering and educating girls in Africa. She's been to Kenya and Rwanda. And because UNICEF is also a very effective NGO in the demobilization, rehabilitation and reintegration of child soldiers.
